These services are provided to the construction industry across Canada, with a focus on deep foundations and tunnel construction. SSG’s engineers have extensive experience providing deep foundation inspection and testing services, instrumentation and monitoring programs for vibration and movement of structures, earth fill, and tunnels/shafts at sites across Canada.
Due to the complex nature of the services SSG provides, an experienced engineer is always involved in instrumentation and testing services, from performance of field testing and inspection, through analysis and reporting.

Meet the Team
Patrick Cullen
Mr. Cullen has extensive engineering experience in the design, inspection, testing and analysis of projects within the highway transportation, oil & gas, and building construction industries, with a focus on deep foundations.
A graduate of Carleton University with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a Concentration in Management, Mr. Cullen has contributed to deep foundations and geotechnical instrumentation projects across Canada and the United States. Mr. Cullen has amassed a wealth of experience in embankment monitoring and deep foundation inspection and testing. Mr. Cullen is a safety-first engineer who is committed to providing the best service to clients both on site and in the office.
David Fitzgerald
Mr. Fitzgerald has built a career in specialized deep foundation inspection and testing methods and techniques. He has contributed to hundreds of deep foundation projects across Canada and in the United States.
He specializes in pile testing including PDA, CSL, SQUID, TIP, Underwater Camera, BIT, SHAPE, SonicCaliper, Static Load Testing and PIT testing and analysis. The vast range in size, scope, and geography of these projects make him highly experienced in the field of deep foundations. Upon graduation from the Civil Engineering program at Carleton University, he took advantage of a position that launched him into the field of deep foundations. He is able to apply his extensive field experience to provide on-site recommendations. His strength is analyzing data and troubleshooting unique and difficult constraints and soil conditions, to ensure safe and economic foundation construction.
Shawn Ferguson
Shawn Ferguson has extensive geotechnical drilling, investigation, instrumentation design, installation, and monitoring experience on highway, bridge, excavation, and tunnel projects across Ontario.
His experience drives innovative approaches to carrying out fieldwork to operate seamlessly with ongoing construction and live infrastructure. Mr. Ferguson is a strong communicator and is always ready to solve problems and relay important information to stakeholders.
Greg Baker
Greg Baker is a professional geotechnical engineer with over 15 years of experience, specializing in geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring, slope stability analysis and remediation, and soil improvement techniques.
Mr. Baker is an expert in advanced data collection and monitoring networks from all equipment manufacturers including Slope Indicator, Geokon, Measurand, RST and Campbell Scientific. Mr. Baker is also an expert with real time web-based monitoring systems, including LoggerNet and Vista Data Vision.
Morgan Lown
Morgan Lown brings extensive experience in quality management, specializing in the development, implementation, and oversight of quality programs for diverse engineering projects. As Quality Manager, Ms. Lown ensures the highest standards in operational processes and compliance while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Ms. Lown collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to uphold safety, integrity, and efficiency on every project. As a proactive facilitator and detail-oriented professional, Ms. Lown is committed to advancing quality practices that deliver consistent value to clients and stakeholders.

Keith Exelby is a retired Vice-President of HSBC Bank Canada. He has more than 30 years of experience in the Financial Services Industry and has extensive knowledge in the areas of Commercial Banking,
Risk Management and Business Analysis. Keith has held various Financial Consultant and Management Board roles and Volunteer positions, notably as a past Governor and Treasurer of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society.

David Mason is a retired partner of Deloitte LLP. He has extensive experience working primarily with owner-managed businesses in tax planning and business advisory services.
Paul Walkington
Paul R. Walkington is a consultant recently retired after 45 years in the engineering industry. A principal in two large multinational engineering firms, he has experience growing private corporations and has been responsible for quality management and Client satisfaction.
An active promoter of continued education, Mr. Walkington has been a founding and sustaining member of certification and advisory boards to educators. In addition, he was an adjunct professor in the geotechnical engineering program at Algonquin College. During this tenure, he chaired the Architectural & Engineering advisory board. Mr. Walkington continues to be a trusted advisor to a large sector of the engineering community bringing a novel, and creative approach to problem resolution.
